Epoxy Syntactic Foam Material For Shoe & Car Part | K520

The K520 is an epoxy syntactic foam core material with a 15-times free expansion ratio under certain conditions. It can be used as a composite core material in carbon fiber car parts, shoe soles, and other TRP products.

Meanwhile, it can be delivered to customers in two states: unframed and fully foamed, making it very convenient. In its unformed state, it is a solid black rubber material that can be directly placed into a mold for shaping. Alternatively, we can provide it as pre-foamed blocks, with sizes and dimensions customized to your requirements. For more details, feel free to contact us anytime!

Description

More Description

K520 epoxy syntactic foam core is a black, epoxy resin micro-foamed core material designed for mid-to-high temperature latent curing. It can be easily hand-shaped and molded before curing. Once cured at 150°C, it can be directly hot-released from the mold without the need for cooling, achieving a density of 0.2g/cm³. This material is ideal for use as a lightweight, high-strength core filler in continuous compression molding of composite materials, significantly enhancing production efficiency.

This core material offers exceptional performance for lightweight and high-strength applications, making it a valuable addition to any advanced composite manufacturing process.

K520 Foam Technical

Initial Density 1.00±0.05g/cm³
Foaming Temperature 130℃-160℃ (Recommended usage temperature: 150℃)
Foaming Ratio/Density 4.5-5.8 times, 0.18-0.21g/cm³
Foamed Hardness Shore A: 80-90 @ ρ=0.20g/cm³, 150℃, 15min
Temperature Resistance Dimensional change rate of less than 1% after 1 hour of baking at 150℃ @ ρ=0.20g/cm³, 150℃, 15min

How to use the K520 Foam?

First, prepare the core material by weighing it according to the mold cavity volume multiplied by the feed density of 0.20g/cm³. The core material is slightly tacky to the touch but won’t leave residue, and it has good manual molding performance, allowing it to be shaped by hand according to the mold cavity’s shape for later use.

Next, if the mold is being foamed for the first time, preheat it on a 150°C hot plate for 1-2 minutes until the mold temperature reaches 70-100°C. After applying a release agent, place the previously shaped core material into the mold, close the mold, and heat it on the 150°C hot plate for 15 minutes. Afterward, remove the mold, open it, and take out the formed part. Repeat this process for continuous core material production.

When used as a core material for prepreg products, it should be placed in the areas of the product structure that require reinforcement and toughening. The specific process parameters, such as hot press molding temperature and time, as well as cooling temperature and time, should be consistent with those used for conventional prepreg products.
